Hans Genee

Hans Genee is VP Science at MATR, where he leads the scientific strategy behind turning whole ingredients into clean-label, fibre-rich foods through solid-state fermentation. He is also closely involved in scaling the science and processes behind MATR’s new production facility.

Hans holds a PhD in Biotechnology from DTU, with research experience from Harvard and Berkeley, and has spent more than 13 years developing microbial and food bioprocesses into commercial ingredients. Before MATR, he co-founded the precision fermentation company Biosyntia, raising €28 million in venture and grant funding. He is the author of 15 peer-reviewed publications, holds seven patent families and was named one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 in 2020.
